Did you see “Kung Fu Panda 2” over the weekend? The reunion of Po and the gang is the first in what promises to be a big summer for movies that kids will surely want to see. Here’s a look at what’s coming up, so you can check off the ones you won’t want to miss! Kung Fu Panda 2 (PG, opened May 26). Po (voiced by Jack Black) and the gang are back to take on a new enemy with a new weapon in this sequel to the 2008 movie.
Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer (PG, opens June 10). Based on the popular book series by Megan McDonald, the film follows the third-grader as she takes advantage of her parents’ unexpected trip to California to have the most thrilling summer ever.
Mr. Popper’s Penguins (PG, June 17). This movie is based on the classic 1938 book of the same name. It stars Jim Carrey as Mr. Popper, a businessman who inherits six penguins and turns his apartment into a winter wonderland for them.
Cars 2 (G, June 24). Remember how the original “Cars” had all that beautiful scenery from the Western United States? Well, in this sequel, Lightning McQueen goes international, which results in cars that look like guards outside Buckingham Palace in England!
Winnie the Pooh (G, July 15). A.A. Milne’s lovable, if sometimes confused, bear stars in this new adventure in which Pooh, Tigger, Kanga and Eeyore set off to rescue Christopher Robin, who they believe has been kidnapped.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (not yet rated, July 15). Okay, so we all know how it ends. We also know we’re all going to see it — several times.
The Smurfs (G, July 29). Ask your parents about the amazing phenomenon of these little blue creatures when they were kids. In this animated movie, the Smurfs tumble out of their world of Smurf Village and into New York City.
